One year ago today Rick's mom, Kate, passed away.  Kate grew up in Rochester, MN, and moved to Chicago for college, staying on working as a career woman in the 1940's.  At a college friend's wedding, Kate met the bride's brother, Conrad.  When they married they moved to Oak Park, IL, as newlyweds.

This afternoon our dear friend Joan's mother, Harriet, passed away.  As a newlyweds, Harriet and Tom also lived in Oak Park.  Years later Rick and Joan met in high school, and Joan married Jim, Rick's friend from first grade through being college roommates.  In comparing childhood stories, Joan and Rick, both October babies, figured out the Kate and Harriet had actually been in the same hospital at the same time.  Being the baby boom era, both of them were in beds in the hallway because the maternity ward was so crowded.  What a generation....  Mary
