June 30

More cleaning today.  Rick tackled the garage.  A huge job, but it looks amazing.  Some weeding and gardening, so I'm a bit stiff tonight....  Mary

Power outage this afternoon.  Thankfully short, but didn't get much done....  Mary

June 28

It's the weekend and nearly the end of the month.  June has been so busy and more than mildly stressful.  Hopefully, I can be more creative and try new patterns in July....  Mary

June 27

Errand night tonight.  We got a great deal accomplished but then the whole evening is gone.  Hopefully, tomorrow can be straight home from work to just get things done in the studio....  Mary

June 26

Rick and I took Annie to The Melting Pot tonight for her birthday!  We are all stuffed with delicious, delicious fondue.  It was a delightful treat and a fun night.  Happy, happy birthday, Anne!  Mary

June 25

The translucent paper Anne gave me for Mothers' Day works really well with this folding pattern.  The colors make a wonderful checkerboard pattern when the flaps are folded under....  Mary

June 24

Quiet night and early to bed.  With these little envelopes, I was able to fold the third one without referring to the instructions.  It's a great folding pattern....  Mary

June 23

Still unpacking books and such, putting furniture back, generally clearing things out again on the second round.  It will be wonderful when it's done, but mostly now I'm just plain tired....  Mary

June 22

Eileen and Warren are safely in their new apartment in the City of Angels.  The postcard piece was my going away gift to them so they don't forget about Wisconsin....  Mary

JK and I had a wonderful time at the quilt show.  We have to say goodbye to Eileen and Warren at 5:00 am....  Mary

June 20

The carpet is clean though still drying.  A few things have been put back, but the bulk of it will happen over the weekend.  Tomorrow my dear friend JK and I will be spending the day at the International Quilt Festival in Chicago.  The bus leaves at 7:15 so I better get to bed soon....  Mary

June 19

Tomorrow the cleaners come at 1:00 to deal with our very grimy carpet.  Then we can start moving things into their new homes - studio, office, library.  Then on Saturday Eileen and Warren leave for California.  Sad and happy at the same time....  Mary

June 17

Have I mentioned I hate moving.  The only good thing is that you really clean when you move house or studio or office....  Mary

June 15

Amused again by the bird paper for the crane.  I managed to fold it so that the birds on the paper are flying one way and the crane is flying the other.  Not planned but further amusement....  Mary

June 14

Cleaning, packing, loading the car for a run to St. Vinnie's first thing.  Tired, but a good night's sleep should help....  Mary

As soon as Eileen gets home we, well Anne and Eileen, will move some furniture and I'll help pack clothes....  Mary

June 9

Busy Sunday getting things more organized around here.  Eileen and Warren will be moving to LA in just 13 days, so mayhem reigns at the moment.  Oh well, moves are always like this and then it's all done.  And, alas, then Eileen will be 2,000 miles away.  But she will be with Warren, and he will be with her so all will be well....  Mary

June 8

Eileen and Warren got engaged today!  Rick and I had a lovely dinner with Warren's parents, Anne, and the happy couple.  It was delightful.  Congratulations to the cutest, sweetest, nicest couple in the whole world....  Mary

June 7

After a long week, I'm not inspired to do anything more than a crane.  Off to bed and not setting an alarm....  Mary

June 6

One of our faculty rides his bike to work.  He swears he only picks flowers that encroach on the path.  I choose to believe that he is not poaching anyone's garden.  Two weeks ago he brought us all lilacs and this week peonies....  Mary

June 5

Anne is back safe and sound from her big trade show.  She and her kittens are sleeping and basically only get up to eat.  Then it's right back to bed.  She should emerge in another 48 hours or so and be rested and awake again....  Mary

June 4

Eileen and I organized some of her packing tonight.  It's really beginning to sink in that she will be gone in just a couple of weeks.  She moved back here from New Mexico three years ago, so it will be hard to send her off.  It is onto the rest of her life, which is wonderful, but it's still 2,000 miles away....  Mary

June 3

Like Meenakshi Mukerji in this interview with Leyla Torres, I am drawn to modular origami forms.  Certainly at nowhere near her level of folding ability.  But I also like folding a piece out of a single sheet of paper and having it suddenly come together....  Mary

June 2

Start of a new week and back to work tomorrow.  With this paper I think this may be more a fire bird than a crane.  This is one of the designer papers from England that Annie gave me for Mothers' Day....  Mary

June 1

Tomorrow's the last day of my vacation.  It's been a wonderful week.  The Korean lilac out in front has been in bloom all week, and the kitchen smells like heaven.  I've purged, sorted and organized my art studio, helped Eileen pack breakables, and hauled bags and boxes of stuff to St. Vincent de Paul.  There's still lots of sifting and winnowing to go in the rest of the house, but this week has been great....  Mary
