Monster has had an extremely busy day supervising Eileen's packing and my purging of closets and my studio.  It's very hard being the boss of everything.... Mary

Balloons tonight.  I had to make a new toy balloon for Monster because he had squashed his purple one flat, so I made him a magenta one.  Then I folded some more....  Mary

Don't know why I find it so amusing to fold origami cranes out of paper with birds on it....  Mary

May 26

The last of the planting is done in the garden.  Rick planted the climbing rose in back where it should get enough sun to flower nicely.  It's a William Baffin rose bush, which was bred in Canada so it's winter hardy for places like Wisconsin.  We had one at our old house and hope this one takes root and prospers here.

I'm heading for bed early so we can take Anne to the airport at the crack of dawn.  She's off the annual trade show for her job.  This year it's in Orlando....  Mary

May 25

A little sore from gardening and not terribly inspired tonight, so I added to the gum chain.  The garden, however, is looking very lovely.

I was certain that the 20 inches of snow we had in December followed by lots more snow had completely done in the small peony tree I'd planted last summer.  But it's shot back up, and we have to absolutely gorgeous pink peonies....  Mary

Oh, so very tired after an awful night's sleep and a long day at work.  I shall grab a cat and go to bed early on this cold, possibly frosty! night....  Mary

May 22

Annie and I finished her amazing project tonight.  Hopefully I can post pictures next week after it has been presented.

Like the polka dotted paper, but it's a bit heavy so the folds show a tad more than I'd like....  Mary

The origami chain is now 38 inches long.  At the rate I'm going, it should be a least 6 feet long by the end of the year.  Maybe longer if I'm uninspired and just add to the chain a lot....  Mary

Our old neighbors -- Kent, Judy and Joe -- came over for dinner tonight.  Anne cooked burgers on the grill and made her world famous lemon curd tart.  It was loads of fun, but we all stayed up to late, of course....  Mary

It's the weekend.  Even though I will probably wake up at the same time as usual tomorrow, it will not be waking up to an alarm.  That is such a luxury....  Mary

May 13

Today is our 35th wedding anniversary.  It doesn't seem possible that it's been three and a half decades.  But then the girls are 30 and 27, which seems utterly and completely impossible.  Three hearts for the three people who are dearest to me in the whole wide world....  Mary

Papers for Mothers' Day from Folded Square

May 12

Happy Mothers' Day to all!  Anne and Eileen gave me gorgeous origami paper.  Annie found this amazing translucent paper.  The folks at this Etsy site sell the paper and also make the most fabulous flowers from it.  I tried to photograph mine backlit which is easier said than done....  Mary

We went down to Illinois today to celebrate my mom's 85th birthday.  The New York portion of the family flew in and surprised Rosemary.  There ended up being twelve of us at lunch, and we had a wonderful time, talking for hours....  Mary

This 12 inch square paper was thinner than the other papers so it was a bit harder to handle.  It probably would have been easier in the 6 inch size....  Mary

I folded this one without any reference to the original pattern.  And it worked!  Mary

May 8

This box pattern is another one that doesn't look like it will work until the very last moment.  It sure is fun when it suddenly comes together.  And as my friend JK says, everything looks better en pointe....  Mary

Will need to do this box again.  I don't think I quite got the inside corners folded correctly....  Mary

I think a 1 inch paper square is as small as I can go.  This crane was folded with tissue paper so that the folds would not get too thick....  Mary

This little crane was folded with a 1-1/2 inch paper and is sitting on a nickel....  Mary

This little crane was folded from a 3 inch square piece of paper.  I may try even smaller tomorrow....  Mary

I folded today's crane all by myself with no help from the tutorial, just like I knew what I was doing....  Mary
