July 31

Too tired and cranky to be creative at all this week.  I've clearly got the modular box pattern down....  Mary

July 30

Our friend Robin is in town for the American Cheese Society Conference & Competition.  Anne is roasting a chicken for dinner.  It smells heavenly....  Mary

July 29

In case I haven't said it about a 100 times before, I love polka-dots.  They are cheery and happy.  Polka-dots make everything zippy and fun....  Mary

We have another chair candidate for the department coming tomorrow, so it will be a hectic week....  Mary

July 27

It's very chilly for July.  It's getting down into the 40s tonight.  The poor cats are trying to curl into tinier and tinier circles to keep warm.  I think there will be much snuggling tonight....  Mary

July 26

It's Friday.  After work I got to have coffee with my best friend, JK, the perfect way to start the weekend....  Mary

July 24

Really cranky tonight.  Had a faculty member stand in my office and complain about how they are making less money than they were 5 years ago.  As are we all at the UW.  However, it seems just plain rude to complain about this to someone who makes one-quarter of what you make.  Just saying....  Mary

July 23

Nothing that required much concentration tonight since I'm paying more attention to The Buddha on PBS....  Mary

July 22

This actually worked.  With thinner paper so the folds and tucks would work, the balloon pattern actually folded with a 2 inch square.  Was pretty sure it wouldn't inflate, but it did....  Mary

July 21

I was wrong about the size of the origami balloon.  It can be folded with a 3 inch piece of paper.  It was very tight to get the folds and tucks done on this one, so I seriously doubt it can be done any smaller....  Mary

July 20

I've posed the little origami balloon with the tissue holder to show that it is indeed small.  The paper was just 4 inches square before I folded it.  Not sure anything smaller would actually inflate....  Mary

Alas, this little goldfish did not inflate by blowing up with a straw like it was supposed to.  But I'm still amused by the goldfish paper for the goldfish....  Mary

July 17

This is a small offering box.  I don't know what to put in it as an offering.  Perhaps just showing up every day in the studio is offering enough....  Mary

July 14

These three pinwheel pouches are all folded from the same pattern.  The only difference is the way the corner points are folded....  Mary

July 13

Just as I find it amusing to fold birds out of bird origami paper, I found it amusing to fold a bunny rabbit out of paper with a bunny on it....  Mary

July 12

It's Friday, and I get to have coffee with my best friend JK tomorrow....  Mary

July 11

Wanted to see if I remembered how to fold the balloon pattern without referring to the instructions.  I did....  Mary

July 10

We started a new round of potential department chair candidate visits today.  The science in the seminar was, as usual, right over my head, but the candidate seems to have a sense of humor which I find invaluable in a boss....  Mary

July 9

Scrapbook paper is rather stiff and a challenge to fold by the last folds, but it comes in such kicky, fun patterns....  Mary

July 8

Saw an eye specialist today for a problem that turned out to not be a problem.  They will look at my eyes again in six weeks just to make absolutely certain.  My eyes were, of course, really seriously dilated for the exam.  I came home and took a nap with Duvy our old, Zen master cat.  He made things much better....  Mary
