There was a celebration today for the 10th anniversary of the Thai Pavilion at Olbrich Gardens with Thai music and food for everyone.  We'd never seen so many people in the garden at one time before.  It was wonderful....  Mary

Each evening this week Public Television is showing Wagner's Ring Cycle.  While opera is all fine and good, Wagner is not a favorite of mine.  Not even a tiny, little bit.  So I am counter programming with the BBC production of Elizabeth Gaskell's North & South.  I've seen it several times before, so I only have to actually watch my favorite bits.  The rest of the time I can work in my studio.  It's like having on my favorite music in the background....  Mary

One of the more challenging things about my job is that, by definition, I can always be interrupted.  It's part of my job to answer the main department line, preferably by the second ring.  Emails need to be responded as soon as possible, not all but many are for immediate needs and have to be answered.  My office door is always open, and students can easily find me and stop in to ask questions.  Today this meant that I did not get any of the things I needed to get done even started until after 1:00.  There were just that many immediate interruptions.  Hopefully tomorrow will be calmer....  Mary

Rick and I went to Olbrich today and took about a billion photos.  At first it was hard to look past the flowers and just see the leaves, but eventually the leaves began to come to fore....  Mary
